Former BJP leader Navjot Singh Sidhu, who is likely to join Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) next week, was also approached by Congress but he had already made up his mind to go with the Arvind Kejriwal-led party, his wife Navjot Kaur said on Saturday.

Navjot Kaur’s revelation came a day after the cricketer-turned-politician met Delhi Chief Minister and AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal in Delhi.

In a surprise move last month, Sidhu resigned as BJP's Rajya Sabha MP, three months after being nominated by the party to the Upper House. It was almost certain at that point that he would be joining the AAP but he did not make any formal announcement.

"We were approached by the Congress, but there is no difference between Capt Amarinder and the ruling Badal clan. They both have had corruption cases slapped against them at one point of their political career or other. We are self-made people and want to bring prosperity to Punjab with the same conviction," Kaur told the Times of India.

She added, "We don't want to sound arrogant, but there's nothing common between us and Capt family. Capt has never spoken against the Akalis in the last 10 years. My husband, despite BJP's alliance with SAD, openly took a stand against the ruling clan on non-completion of 11 projects, including Attari border check post safety scanners,CCTV cameras.Capt has hardly attended Vidhan Sabha sessions or Lok Sabha sessions."

Soon after his association with the BJP ended, Sidhu received feelers from the Congress as Punjab Congress chief Captain Amarinder Singh had publicly said the he would like the former Amritsar MP to join the party.
