Senior Congress leader Renuka Chaudhary today stoked a new controversy when she said that "Rape to chalte hi rehte hai” (rape is common).
Responding to a question on Bulandshahr gangrape case in which UP Police have arrested three accused, Congress party’s Rajya Sabha MP said, "Rape to chalte hi rehte hai (rape is common) and if they arrest someone after 10-20 days and think that we will pat their back then this won't happen."
"Be it the police investigation or something else, this has taken place after a long time. Now, we will have to see the future course of action because we are fed up of the situation where we hear someone or the other talking on rape everyday when we wake up,” she added.
The Uttar Pradesh Police have confirmed that three accused including the kingpin and two others of the suspected gang have been arrested in this case.
The state government has already told the Allahabad High Court that it is ready for a CBI probe in this case if the court desired so.
Asking the parties to file an affidavit regarding the development on another petition on the same issue, the bench deferred the hearing till August 22.
