New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Rakhi Birla was today elected Deputy Speaker of the Delhi Assembly.
Rakhi’s election brought a special gift to her as it was the birthday of new Dy Speaker.
The proposal to make Birla the Deputy Speaker was made by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and seconded by Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia.
The house, dominated by the AAP, backed the proposal by voice vote.
Birla succeeds Bandana Kumari, also of the AAP who resigned last week.
It should be recalled that Bandana Kumari had resigned from the post of Deputy Speaker after her party AAP suffered setbacks in the recent Municipality by-polls in Shalimar Bagh North ward.
