Congress President Rahul Gandhi will be undertaking a two-day visit to his constituency Amethi on January 15 and 16. Believed to be a stronghold of the grand-old party, Amethi will look to give a rousing welcome to the new party Chief as he arrives in the constituency for the first time after assuming office.
It was on December 11 last year when Rahul Gandhi took over the reigns from mother Sonia Gandhi as the new Congress President. Jubilant party workers were seen celeberating across the country, including Amethi, which saw partymen grooving to the beats of dhols and bursting of firecrackers as the news of coronation broke.
However, the Congress party faced the embarrasment of losing in its bastion Amethi, the Lok Sabha constituency of Rahul Gandhi last month. It lost all four assembly seats in the constituency: Amethi, Tiloi, Jagdishpur, Gauriganj and Salon.
Earlier this week, Rahul Gandhi visited Bahrain as a part of his outreach to the Indian diaspora, where he promised to present a new party. He asserted that the focus will be to give a "new vision" to India.
