The Madras High Court today asked the Tamil Nadu government to inform it about ailing Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa health before Thursday.
“AIADMK leader J Jayalalithaa is holding public office, and therefore her state of health must be clarified by government officials before October 6,” the HC said in a statement.
The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister has been in hospital for the last 12 days after being admitted for high fever and dehydration.
Lack of information over her health has triggered all sorts of speculations in Tamil Nadu despite stern warnings from the police.
On Friday, a case was registered against author Tamizhachi, who claimed in a Facebook post that Jayalalithaa had been dead for several days.
On Monday, activist KR “Traffic” Ramaswamy filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) for a clarification on the Chief Minister’s health saying the public had a right to know whether she was conscious and able to hold important meetings.
However, the AIADMK has said that Jayalalithaa is recovering well in the hospital.
“We are answerable only to the people, and not to the opposition,” AIADMK spokesperson C Saraswati told Hindustan Times.
