New Delhi: Two-year after he stormed to power at the Centre giving BJP its highest-ever tally in the Lok Sabha elections, PM Narendra Modi’s popularity among the middle class is still running high, especially among urban salaried and those living in India's seven biggest cities.
According to an ET-TNS survey, the Prime Minister is more popular than Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi. On a scale of one to 10, Modi gets a score of 7.68 against a lowly 3.61 for Rahul.
Nearly 41% of the surveyed people gave Narendra Modi a rating of 9 or 10.
Also the BJP-led NDA government’s overall rating is still high despite getting caught up in various controversies and the failure to make progress on key reform agenda.
The report mentioned that the ruling coalition has an overall approval rating of 86% on economic performance. 62% of the surveyed people believed that the government has delivered on job creation.
To a question about government promise of ‘achhe din’ after Lok Sabha polls, 58% of the respondents say they expect the future to be better.
On the recent controversy over nationalism and sedition, nearly 46% say that the Congress party was on fault whereas 52% hold the government’s action right.
The survey was conducted across Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru, Kolkata, Hyderabad and Ahmedabad. The surveyors met more than 2,000 people between the ages of 24 and 50 with an annual income between Rs 3 lakh and Rs 20 lakh. About a fifth of those surveyed were women.
