Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today sent out a strong retort to a showcause notice issued to her by the Election Commission for an alleged violation of the model code of conduct in the state, saying that the people would showcause them on result day.
"Election Commission has showcaused me on Bengali New Year today, people will showcause them on May 19,” she said referring to the day the EC declares the results of the ongoing Assembly elections in the state.
The notice from the EC came following a promise by the CM of making Asansol a separate district during an election rally.
"It has been brought to our notice that she made a promise of creation of Asansol district and also made certain other utterances, for which the showcause has been issued," Chief Election Commissioner Naseem Zaidi told the media.
Meanwhile, Mamata also charged opposition parties of indulging in a vendetta against her party.
“From morning to night, the Congress, CPM and BJP leaders are lodging complaints against me. I will seek answer inch by inch. It is my fundamental right. I don't need a certificate from them. I only need certificate from people. The people will given them a befitting reply through ballots," she said addressing a public meeting in Birbhum.

She further caste aspersions on the bipartisan role of the EC, saying, “City police commissioner was removed, a large number of OCs were changed. It is being done at the behest of the Congress, CPI-M and BJP".
"A political vendetta is on against a particular party," she added.
