The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today lashed out at ace comedian Kapil Sharma for alleging that despite PM Modi’s election promise of ushering in “ache din” in the country, he was being asked to pay a bribe of Rs 5 lakh by Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) officials.
Reacting to Kapil Sharma’s barb at PM Modi, BJP MP Manoj Tiwari reminded him that if someone has paid Rs 15 crore tax in five years, his "achhe din" must have arrived.
"If someone is paying Rs 15 crore tax in five years, their "achhe din" have already arrived. The fact that he is trying to save the bribe mongers by not naming them proves that he doesn't want the society to be a part of "achhe din" as well," Manoj Tiwari said.
"I also see a guilty conscience in his tweets because it could be possible that he paid a bribe and got his office made illegally," Tiwari added.
Manoj Tiwari also pointed out that while the Prime Minister of this country paid his kitchen expenses himself and is working day and night to eradicate corruption, the people who provoked Kapil Sharma to tweet, tagging the PM, were the ones who consumed snacks worth Rs one crore.
He also alleged that Kapil may have posted that tweet out of fear because the government has asked everyone to declare their entire income by 30th September.
"We have asked everyone to declare their entire income by 30th September. It is quite possible that he was scared and that's why he started his social media rant," Tiwari said.
Kapil Sharma, who hosts the popular comedy program "The Kapil Sharma Show" on TV had earlier claimed that he was asked to pay a bribe of Rs 5 lakh by a BMC official for his new office that is under construction.
In a tweet tagging the Prime Minister, he lamented that despite paying taxes for the last 15 years, he was being asked to cough up a bribe of Rs 5 lakh.
