Lok Sabha elections 2019: Congress candidate fields ex-CM Sheila Dikshit from North-East Delhi

 

The Congress party, on Monday, fielded Sheila Dikshit, former Delhi chief minister, from North East Delhi for the Lok Sabha election 2019. 

After the announcement, Sheila Dikshit said she will do her best “to fulfill the responsibility given.”

“I'll do my best to fulfill the responsibility given to me. I've contested from here earlier, I know the people here and they know me. We had started Metro from here, our reputation is of working for the people,” ANI quoted Sheila Dikshit as saying.

Her predecessor Ajay Maken will contest as the Congress candidate from New Delhi.   

On Monday, Congress released a list of candidates for six out of seven Parliamentary constituencies in Delhi. The announcement has come a day before the third phase of Lok Sabha election.

The 2019 general election is currently being held in seven phases from 11 April to 19 May 2019 to constitute the 17th Lok Sabha. The counting of votes will be conducted on 23 May, and on the same day, the results will be declared. About 900 million Indian citizens are eligible to vote in one of the seven phases depending on the region.

Legislative Assembly elections in the states of Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Odisha and Sikkim will be held simultaneously with the general election.
