A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) has been filed in Delhi High Court against the Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party government for bestowing 'martyr' status on the deceased ex-serviceman Ram Kishan Grewal.
Grewal had committed suicide over alleged discrepancy in the implementation of the One Rank One Pension (OROP) scheme.
The petition, filed by ex-paramilitary personnel Puranchand Arya, says that the ‘martyr’ status will promote more suicides in future for money.
The petitioner has also asked the court to frame guidelines for granting martyr status by both the state and central governments.
On Thursday, Kejriwal government had declared Grewal a ‘martyr’ and announced Rs 1 crore as compensation to his kin.
