New Delhi: The Congress has accused the BJP-led NDA government of not taking action against those allegedly involved in corruption.

Speaking to media here on Tuesday, senior Congress leader Anand Sharma sought to know what ‘the Modi government has done in Lalit Modi case and Panama Papers involving megastar Amitabh Bachchan’.

“What action have they taken against the son of Chhattisgarh chief minister? What about the cases against the Rajasthan chief minister? What has happened to the inquiry on Lalit Modi? Why haven't they dismissed Eknath Khadse, their minister in Maharashtra who is facing allegations of land grabbing,” he aid.

"The anchor of the mega show at India Gate is named in Panama Papers. The Prime Minister talks about Panama Papers and his minister is talking about Panama Papers, and the anchor is also mentioned there," he added.

The Deputy Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha also challenged the government to release the list of names of Congress leaders whom it accused of indulging in corruption.

“They have levelled enough allegations. We pose an open challenge to this government to release the list of names of Congress leaders who, they say, are accused of corruption. Are they facing any case in the country. They must tell the source of the thousands of crore that they have used to contest in elections,” he said.

Sharma was responding to Finance Minister Arun Jaitley’s earlier claim that he was ready to present evidence regarding serving and former CMs and Congress heavyweights in Parliament so that it can be debated.

He said that the government was nurturing an environment in the country that has benefited the ‘lumpen elements’.

The party also blamed the government of ‘mastering the art of selectively leaking some documents or manufacturing and fabricating papers’ and giving it to ‘selective few’ in the media to defame and to target.

"It happened during the debate on AgustaWestland. What has happened to those papers? Why did they not agree to a Supreme Court-monitored enquiry? This dirty tricks department is over-active. It is busy doing this and it operates from the Prime Minister's Office," he said.

"We have said it in the past and repeating it again. They should stop this kind of leaking of documents. But when the government itself is complicit, then the government is doing this thing, because this is the only way to deflect and divert attention from the total collapse of the economy and betrayal of the people by Narendra Modi and the BJP," he added.
