Amritsar: A day after Navjot Singh Sidhu resigned from the Rajya Sabha, his wife Navjot Kaur, who is an MLA in Punjab, said that her husband’s resignation from the Upper House definitely means he has left the saffron party.
“When he (Navjot Singh Sidhu) has resigned from Rajya Sabha, it only has one meaning that he has resigned from BJP as well,” Kaur, who is currently the chief parliamentary secretary in Punjab, said here on Tuesday.
“Yes, Navjot Singh Sidhu has resigned from BJP,” Kaur added.
She said that her husband wanted to serve Punjab and for that “Aam Aadmi Party is the only option”.
“He has clear vision he wants to serve Punjab, he wasn't ready for any other option besides Punjab… I am personally impressed by AAP’s ideology and Arvind Kejriwal’s working style,” she said.
When specifically asked if Sidhu will join AAP, she said, “He will decide on this, I can't take a decision on his behalf, let it come from his mouth.”
Kaur went on to say that there were no chances of Sidhu going back to the BJP.
“When there was a clear message that they (Akali Dal & BJP) want to fight together, its obvious there was no door for him (Navjot Singh),” she said.
Kaur, however, said that she has not resigned from the BJP. “I have not resigned from BJP,” she said.
The Sidhus are expected to join the Aam Aadmi Party after being reportedly upset over the BJP alliance with the Akali Dal in Punjab.
Navjot Singh Sidhu, who was nominated by the BJP in April, announced his resignation yesterday saying “in the war of right or wrong, you can’t afford to be neutral”.
Last year, Sidhu and his wife were said to have made up their mind to leave the BJP. But the central leadership’s intervention stopped him.
