The power struggle within Samajwadi party today shifts to national capital with factions belonging to Mulayam Singh and Akhilesh Yadav set to stake claim for party's symbol.

* Mulayam Singh Yadav accompanied by Amar Singh, Shivpal Singh Yadav and Jaya Prada reach Election Commission

* Delhi: Mulayam Singh Yadav accompanied by Amar Singh, Shivpal Singh Yadav and Jaya Prada leaves his residence to visit Election Commission

* Ram Gopal Yadav's meeting with Election Commission of India fixed for 11:30 AM tomorrow. He had sought time from the ECI earlier.

Samajwadi Party (SP) founder Mulayam Singh Yadav will meet Election Commission officials today. 

"The Samajwadi Party's election symbol is my signature," said Mulayam, indicating he isn't going to let go of it easily.

"Nobody can accuse me of anything, I have never done anything wrong," said Mulayam Singh on Monday morning, dismissing reports that he is unwell.

'Sacked' party MP Amar Singh too is back from London and is expected to accompany Mulayam to the EC for a meeting scheduled for 2 pm.

The 77-year-old leader has left Lucknow for Delhi along with brother Shivpal Yadav and is expected to meet politician Amar Singh, who was in London as the party split.

Mulayam's brother Shivpal expressed his allegiance for his brother who's called 'netaji' by most people.

"Netaji is currently party president and will remain so in the future too. I will be with netaji until my dying breath," Shivpal said upon his arrival in Delhi.

The chief minister's staunch supporter and Mulayam's cousin Ram Gopal Yadav will visit the Election Commission in Delhi today to stake claim to the Samajwadi Party's "cycle" symbol.

Mulayam Singh Yadav has temporarily suspended the national convention of Samajwadi party he had called on Thursday- Januray 5 and  asked the party workers to head to their constituencies and  prepare for the upcoming assembly polls in Uttar Pradesh.

In a series of tweets, Shivpal yadav on Monday said that Mulayam Singh has postponed January 5 convention of the Samajwadi Party while urging the party workers to focus on winning assemly polls which is barely three months away.

According to reports, the meeting was likely to have been poorly attended with most party workers and leaders siding with his son and Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav.

The chief minister's staunch supporter and Mulayam's cousin Ram Gopal Yadav will visit the Election Commission in Delhi today to stake claim to the Samajwadi Party's "cycle" symbol. The Yadav Senior is likely to meet Shivpal Yadav and Amar Singh in Delhi today and they are also likely to claim the party symbol.

 

Earlier on Sunday, Mulayam called for party's national convention on Sunday, hours after his son and chief minister Akhilesh Yadav unseated him as party supremo at the “extraordinary national convention” called by Akhilesh’s faction. Mulayam's close confidant's Shivpal Yadav and Amar Singh were also expelled from the party.

A furious Mulayam Singh hit back, declaring Sunday's pro-Akhilesh meeting illegal and expelling party Vice President Kironmoy Nanda and Rajya Sabha member Naresh Agarwal. Nanda refused to accept the decision.
