Allahabad: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today sounded the poll bugle in Uttar Pradesh, kicking off the Bharatiya Janata Party’s poll campaign in the state which goes to polls next year. UP is crucial for the BJP, which is in high morale following the victory in the Assam Assembly elections.
Expressing concern over the prevalent situation in Uttar Pradesh, Modi today took potshots at Samajwadi Party (SP) and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) saying till this ‘jugalbandi’ of Mayawati and Mulayam Singh is stopped, there’s no scope of development in the state.
PM Modi also slammed both the parties for making serious allegations against each other but not taking any action when in power.
“Mayawati and Mulayam Singh have 'jugalbandi', five years of government for each. Till this is stopped, development cannot take place in UP,” said Modi while addressing a rally in Allahabad.

“There seems to be contract in UP. SP & BSP make serious allegations against each other but do nothing about it when elected to power,” he added.
Talking about the development of the state, Modi expressed his doubts on whether the funds given by the Centre to the UP government reaches people or not.
“Uttar Pradesh receives Rs 1 lakh crore from the Centre. Don't know if it reaches the people here,” he said.
“Development will gain momentum only when seeds of communalism, dynasty rule, corruption are removed.”
Pointing out the state’s influence on the Centre, he said, “Looking at the stage it is evident what impact the state has on govt. PM, HM, Defence Minister, all are from UP.”
In the city for BJP's national executive meeting, Modi visited Chandrashekhar Azad Park and paid floral tribute to the revolutionary who died here fighting the British over eight decades ago.
After spending the night at the Circuit House, the Prime Minister left for the KP Inter College Sports Ground to take part in the national executive.
Scores of people gathered along the roadside to greet the Prime Minister who, in turn, waved at them.
