Two successive India media reports corroborating the claims of the Indian Army of having successfully conducted surgical strikes on terror launch pads across the Line of Control may have impressed Arvind Kejriwal, but not enough to gratify his desire for proof from the government.
The Delhi Chief Minister today urged the government to “expose Pakistan internationally” for its false propaganda over the Indian Army’s surgical strikes in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK) as media has done with its reports.
“So happy that some media exposing Pak's false propaganda. I congratulate them. Urge Indian govt to likewise expose Pak internationally,” Kejriwal said while reacting to a private TV channel’s sting in which a Pakistani police official inadvertently disclosed that the strike did take place in which at least five Pakistani soldiers and an unspecified numbers of militants were killed.
In the sting, Ghulam Akbar, Superintendent of Police (Special Branch) of the Mirpur Range in PoK, is heard making the disclosure about the strike that took place in many sectors of the PoK in the early hours of September 29 and killed 12 terrorists by the Indian commandos.
A report in The Indian Express had earlier carried eyewitness accounts from PoK residents who also confirmed Indian Army’s operation on the intervening night of September 28 and 29. Notably, it was based on media reports from across the border that Kejriwal had jumped to demand that the Indian government beat Pakistan’s propaganda. However, similar reports back home do not seem to be doing the trick for him.
Kejriwal had earlier come under attack by the Bhartiya Janata Party when he released a video message "saluting" Prime Minister over surgical strikes along the LoC and urging him to "unmask" Pakistan's propaganda by presenting evidence.
The demand to make proofs of surgical strike was also made from Mumbai Congress chief Sanjay Nirupam who demanded "some evidence" to prove the surgical strikes did take place and accused the Centre's ruling BJP of indulging in politics over the issue.
Slamming the politicians for questioning the Army operation, Union Minister Uma Bharti said leaders who cast "doubt over the army's surgical strike should take Pakistani citizenship".
Union minister Venkaiah Naidu on Tuesday alleged that "some politicians" are speaking the "language of Pakistan" on the surgical strikes and said it is "not fair" to ask jawans to "show proof" of their operations against terrorists.
