The actual reason for holding a special session of Uttar Pradesh legislature to mark Mahatma Gandhi's 150th birth anniversary is not to deliberate on his works but to hide the failures of the BJP government, BSP president Mayawati on Wednesday claimed.
In a tweet, she said, "Convening a special session of the UP Legislative Assembly on Gandhiji's 150 birth anniversary is not to deliberate on his works but to hide the failures of its government by the BJP. This is why BSP has deployed its MLAs in the real public service to help the flood victims."
Mayawati was apparently referring to the absence of her party legislators from the special 36-hour-long session. In a dig at the Congress over its silent march by Congress on Gandhi Jayanti, she said, "In spite of being in power for the longest time in various states including Uttar Pradesh and Centre, when Congress party could not realise Gandhiji's dreams even a little bit then what can they now do by holding padayatra while being out of power. The same situation is being seen of the BJP. Public needs to remain vigilant."
