Intelligence agencies have warned that Maoists and several other groups may target Prime Minister Narendra Modi during elections rallies in five states that are going to polls from next month.
Besides Modi, Home Minister Rajnath Singh and BJP president Amit Shah are also on the radar of such elements who want to disrupt the election process.
India Today reported that top intelligence have received specific inputs that leaders of the front organisations of the CPI(Maoist) have urged their central leadership to target the election rallies.
The list also features the names of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and his son, it said.
The report claimed that a note allegedly issued by Andhra Pradesh State Committee of the CPI (Maoist) held the PM and CM responsible for killing of its cadres.
Since the top leadership will be visiting various places for the election campaigning, the note said that ‘cadres should carry out serial IED blasts’ in Uttar Pradesh and Punjab by deploying 'suitable cadres' from outside.
The faction has also promised to provide assistance to carry out the task.
Last year, similar notes and audio statements have appeared from Odisha, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana after the killing of 30 cadres of the CPI (Maoist) by security forces in Malkangiri.
Meanwhile, central intelligence agencies have carried out a special briefing to Special Protection Group (SPG), which is responsible for PM’s security, to apprise them of the developments.
