New Delhi: Delhi LG Najeeb Jung has ordered the Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) to investigate the Rs 400 crore water tanker scam in the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) involving both former and incumbent CMs Sheila Dikshit and Arvind Kejriwal.
Sources said that the ACB will look into the circumstances why Kejriwal had kept the report of the Fact Finding Committee with him instead of forwarding it to the LG.
Earlier in the day, a delegation of the Delhi BJP submitted a memorandum to Jung requesting him to order the filing of an FIR and seeking investigation into the matter.
Leader of Opposition Vijender Gupta alleged that Water Minister Kapil Mishra had apprised CM Kejriwal about the scam 11 months ago but no investigation was done.
"LG has forwarded the committee's report to the ACB for appropriate action in the matter. He has also forwarded Gupta's complaint that the Delhi Chief Minister suppressed the report of the fact-finding committee for 11 months," government sources said.
The Fact Finding Committee set-up by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government had in July last year submitted its report with all the requisite proofs to the government.
The opposition BJP in Delhi has accused the AAP government of trying to protect Dikshit.
"Mishra had written a letter to Chief Minister Kejriwal in this context and also submitted the report of the committee but he sat over the file for 11 months. Hence from legal point of view he is guilty of protecting the persons involved in the scam," Delhi BJP media incharge Praveen Kapoor said.
Water Minister Kapil Mishra on June 12 had written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Jung recommending either CBI or ACB probe against Dikshit in connection with alleged water tanker scam.
Mishra today said that the former Delhi CM should be behind the bars for alleged corruption and that she was not facing any action as BJP was not keen to punish the guilty.
"We have filed 3 FIRs against her for various corruption cases and one in depth enquiry report which is with ACB now. My report exposing corruption by Shiela Dikshit has been forwarded to ACB," he said.
Last week, the AAP Government had made the committee's report public after Gupta demanded from Kejriwal in Delhi Assembly to do the same.
The letter written by Mishra said the committee had "indicated" that Dikshit as the then Chairperson of Delhi Jal Board and other DJB members had indulged in "grave irregularities".
"I am requesting you to kindly hand over this matter to CBI with the direction to lodge an FIR and take further appropriate action in accordance with law," Mishra said in his letter to the PM.
