The application of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav for receiving Rs. 10,000 per month under ‘JP Senani Samman Yojna’ has been approved by the state government.
Lalu will now get the due amount for the same from June 2009 till date.
Under ‘JP Senani Samman Yojna’, Bihar government provides a pension of Rs. 5000 per month to people who spent less than six months in jail during the Emergency and Rs. 10,000 to the those who were imprisoned for a year.
Lalu was jailed under the Maintenance of Internal Security Act (MISA) at Bankipore Patna jail for opposing the Emergency imposed by the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
Applications submitted by around 3,100 people have so far been approved for the pension and around 2,500 people are already getting monthly pension under this scheme.
