Hitting back at Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his ‘SCAM’ barb, Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi today said people who are “involved in wrongdoings see scams everywhere.”

“Modi ji has come up with a new scheme-SCAM. The person who is involved in wrongdoings, sees scams everywhere," Rahul said at a rally which he held jointly with Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav in Uttar Pradesh's Kanpur.

Responding to PM’s SCAM acronym- Samajwadi (Party), Congress, Akhilesh (Yadav) and Mayawati- Rahul said, “I'll reply to PM Modi's SCAM remark. It's Service, Courage, Ability and Modesty," adding that the Samajwadi party-Congress alliance abides by it.

Yesterday at a rally in Meerut, Modi had said, “BJP's fight is against SCAM. By scam I mean, S- Samajwadi (Party) , C - Congress, A- Akhilesh (Yadav), M – Mayawati.”

Taking a jibe at Modi for BJP’s defeat in Bihar Assembly elections in 2105, Rahul said PM will never speak about UP after defeat just like he stopped speaking about Bihar.

"After his defeat in Bihar, Prime Minister Modi stopped speaking about Bihar; after his UP defeat he will never speak about UP again."

Targeting the Prime Minister over demonetisation, the Congress leader said people of Uttar Pradesh will make the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) realise the cost.

"After the Uttar Pradesh polls, Prime Minister Modi will realise what the people think of demonetisation. People of UP will not buy your lies," he said.

"The Prime Minister says that he is against corruption. But after demonetisation, there was not a rich man in the queue; no 'suit boot' person was seen. The farmers don't take cheques, they take cash. He has created problems for the poor," the Amethi MP added.

Speaking at the rally before Rahul, Samajwadi Party national president Akhilesh Yadav also took Prime Minister head on for his ‘SCAM’ remark.

“Even we want to get rid of SCAM. We want to save country from Amit Shah and Prime Minister Modi," Akhilesh said referring to SCAM as “S-Save, C-Country from A- Amit (Shah) and M-Modi.”

Uttar Pradesh will vote in seven-phase elections between February 11 and March 8 and results will be declared on March 11.

While Samajwadi Party is contesting on 298 seats, it has given Congress 105 seats.

Rahul and Akhilesh have held two joint rallies, in Lucknow and Agra, reflecting the new found bonhomie between the two parties in the poll-bound state and today’s Kanpur rally was the third in the series.
