Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi on Friday visited Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa at Chennai’s Apollo Hospital to enquire about her health and said she is on the road to recovery.
Rahul told reporters that Jayalalithaa, who was admitted to the hospital last month, was going to be all right. Her health is improving, he said.
“I came to extend my support to Ms Jayalalithaa. She's recovering. I wish her maximum energy so she'd be able to get well soon,” he said.
Rahul was at the hospital for over 30 minutes and enquired about the AIADMK leader's health. The Congress leader is the first national leader to visit the 68-year-old Jayalalithaa, who was brought to the Apollo Hospital on September 22.
On Thursday, a team of doctors from AIIMS examined the AIADMK supremo and said that her health continues to improve but requires a longer stay at the hospital.
Earlier, Union Minister Pon Radhakrishnan and Tamil Nadu Governor Ch. Vidyasagar Rao visited the hospital.
Meanwhile, the Madras High Court on Thursday dismissed a PIL seeking a detailed report from the government on the health of Jayalalithaa observing that it should not be used for “political purposes”.
When the PIL came up, the first bench headed by Chief Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul observed, “This forum should not be used for political purposes and it is a publicity interest litigation.”
“The hospital is already issuing health bulletins. The PIL is dismissed,” the court said.
The petitioner “Traffic” Ramaswamy, a social activist, had submitted that the people of Tamil Nadu were eager to know about the health condition of Jayalalithaa.
The PIL also sought releasing of photographs of the meeting Jayalalithaa is said to have had with her cabinet colleagues and officials in the hospital.
