New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today expressed hope that the Opposition parties will cooperate with government in ensuring the Parliament transacts business smoothly.
Speaking to media outside the Parliament, he said, “In the last session also we transacted important business. Most of them were on financial issues. The satisfaction about it reflected in the face of our members. I hope similarly business will be transacted smoothly this time as well. We hope all (parties) will cooperate in making the session a success.”
The second phase of budget session of Parliament is beginning today with important bills and legislations including GST Bill, Finance Bill, Railways Appropriation Bill and Afforestation Fund Bill scheduled to be discussed. Demands for Grants and working of 11 Ministries are also scheduled to be discussed in the session.
Besides that the government would try to get The Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement (Amendment) Bill, 2015 passed by the parliament. The report of Joint Committee is awaited on this bill.
In this Parliament session, which will have 15 sitting, besides ratification of Presidential Proclamation in Uttarkhand under Article 356 of the Constitution, two Ordinances viz., The Uttarakhand Appropriation Ordinance,2016 and The Enemy Property (Amendment and Validation) Second Ordinance, 2016 are also on the agenda of legislative business.
Meanwhile, the Opposition parties, especially the Congress, have made it clear that they will counter the NDA government over the imposition of President’s Rule in Uttarakhand, Ishrat Jahan issue and drought.
The session begins in the middle of a raging political controversy over the Uttarakhand political crisis in which Centre’s role has come in for scathing criticism besides drought-like conditions in 10 states. A number of Opposition parties have given notices for suspension of Question Hour on the first day of the session over the Uttarakhand issue and sought a discussion on the drought in the first week.
