Union Minister Harsh Vardhan today said that Hindi is the fourth most spoken language in the world. He said that all languages in India originated from Sanskrit and Hindi is the most convenient language for most of the population.

"Though all Indian languages, Gujarati, Kannada, Telugu, Marathi, originated from Sanskrit, Hindi is the most convenient for most of the population," he tweeted on the occasion of Hindi Divas.

Hindi Divas is celebrated on September 14 every year to promote and propagate the language. Hindi Divas was first celebrated on September 14, 1949 – the day the Constituent Assembly of India adopted Hindi written in Devanagari script as the official language of the Republic of India.

Earlier in the day, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh addressed the nation and spoke about the importance of the Hindi language and its future. The Home Minister said that he believes the future of Hindi and all other Indian languages is very bright.

"On this occasion of Hindi diwas, let us vow to promote and support Hindi in mind, in word, and in deed, and take it to its respectable state and make our country proud. Since Hindi is the official language, it is our constitutional liability to ensure that Hindi is used a primary language for official work," he said.

Celebration of Hindi Diwas holds a lot of significance in the country and stands as a patriotic reminder to Indian populations of their common roots and unity.
