The Goods and Services Tax (GST) Bill, passed by Rajya Sabha on Wednesday, is likely to be tabled in Lok Sabha on August 8 for ratification.
The ruling BJP has issued a whip to its Lok Sabha members to ensure its smooth passage.
The party has asked its members to be present in the Lower House on Monday.
GST Bill, which is also the 122nd constitution amendment bill, is likely to be passed in the Lok Sabha smoothly because of the ruling NDA’s overwhelming majority.
The GST Bill was passed by the Lok Sabha way back in May 2015 after which it was sent to Rajya Sabha for its passage .
Since there was no political consensus in the Upper House over the GST Bill, it was hanging in the Rajya Sabha for more than a year.
On Wednesday, the Rajya Sabha passed the Bill with the required two-thirds majority after the government introduced some changes in the bill that was passed in the Lok Sabha.
Interestingly, not a single vote was cast against the GST Bill in the Rajya Sabha when it was put to vote.
Since the bill passed in Rajya Sabha has certain changes compared to one that was passed by Lok Sabha in May 2015, it needs to be ratified by the Lok Sabha once again.
