New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has threatened bureaucrats working with his government not to play politics with elected representatives, saying it hampers the government's functioning and downgrades its credibility.
Addressing bureaucrats on Civil Services Day on Tuesday, he denounced the strike called by DANICS and IAS officers in Delhi on the eve of the first odd-even policy on December 31 last year and said that ‘bureaucrats have to follow the AAP’s mandate and agenda since Delhi had given the party a historic landslide with 67 of 70 seats, and 55 per cent share of the votes’.
“People are happy with the performance of out government. And if we continue to function like this, our government will stay here for at lease 10-15 years (Janata badi khush hai aur isi tarah sarkar chalti rahe to dus-pandrah saal toh hum kahin nahi gaye. Abhi hain hum). Someone may like it or someone may not like it. Those who are above 45, they don’t have any option. Only we are for you,” he said.
““We can tolerate anything but we will not tolerate politics. If you are interested in politics, resign, contest elections and confront us. I am ready to face you in election. But politics in bureaucracy will not be accepted,” he added.
“You get transferred somewhere (under Central government) or resign. But you have no option if you are here. You have to follow the agenda of my government,” he further said.
In December last year, all the bureaucrats had gone on a day-long leave en mass, protesting suspension of two DANICS officers, holding charge of special secretary in the Home Department over charges of "in-subordiantion".
The Chief Minister also said that ‘his government was the perfect opportunity for bureaucrats to fulfil their dreams’.
“Civil servants should become part of my ‘honest, transparent’ government and serve the people of Delhi. My government is fulfilling the aspirations of the people of Delhi. They have expressed faith in us by giving us massive and historic mandate. I would certainly expect from the bureaucracy to support the government with regard to implementing its policies and programmes in order to fulfil the promises made to the electorates," he said.
Ever since it came back to power in February last year, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the city bureaucracy have been at loggerheads over a host of issues.
