Swati Singh, wife of expelled BJP leader Dayashankar Singh has taken a lead into countering Bahujan Samaj Party leader Mayawati in poll-bound Uttar Pradesh.
Following Dayashankar Singh’s release on bail on August 7, after spending 10 days in jail, the couple has been addressing public meetings in several districts, especially where Kshatriya caste is in dominance.
The couple is currently operating under the banner of the Akhil Bharatiya Kshatriya Mahasabha, run by Pratapgarh MP Haribansh Singh of the Apna Dal, a BJP ally. They have said that they are open to taking support from any “non-political” organisation or group.
Swati, who takes the lead in addressing the public, focuses on the abuses her family faced allegedly on the hands of BSP leaders.
Following Dayashankar Singh’s derogatory comments against BSP president Mayawati, an FIR was filed by the party. Subsequently, BSP held a protest rally in Lucknow where leaders allegedly used abusive slogans targeting Dayashankar Singh’s daughter and wife.
Singh, who was on the run for nine days, was arrested by Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force with the help of Bihar Police from Buxar on 29 July and lodged in Mau jail.
At a rally in Hathras on Sunday, Swati told people about the “abusive” and “obscene” slogans allegedly raised by BSP leaders against her daughter at the protest rally held in Lucknow on July 21.
As Singh was on the run, Swati took it upon herself to counter BSP leaders. An FIR was lodged last month against several BSP leaders, including Mayawati and general secretary Naseemuddin Siddiqui and Swati has been demanding their arrest.
Swati claimed that neither Mayawati nor the Uttar Pradesh police had taken any action against the BSP leaders, including Naseemuddin, who allegedly raised the slogans.
She urged members of Kshatriya community to not vote for the BSP and stand up for “the community’s dignity and respect”.
