A day after accusing senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Kumar Vishwas of conspiring to break the party, Okhla MLA Amanatullah Khan on Monday evening resigned from the party's powerful Political Affairs Committee (PAC).
Senior AAP legislators, including at least two ministers, had earlier signed a letter, urging the top leadership of the party to expel Amanatullah.
AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal had called a PAC meeting to discuss the issues that arose after the allegations levelled by Amanatullah on Sunday against Vishwas.
Amanatullah reached Delhi Chief Minister Kejriwal's residence, where the PAC meet was scheduled to be held, tendered his resignation from the PAC and left.
"Amanatullah Khan has resigned from the party's PAC and his resignation has been accepted," Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia told reporters after the meeting.
He said that Kejriwal was "unhappy" with both Amanatullah and Vishwas far raising the issue outside party fora.
"In the PAC it was discussed that the party leaders including the MLAs should exercise restraint while making remarks," Sisodia said.
Earlier in the day, senior leaders of the party had called for sacking of Amanatullah over the allegations against Vishwas.
Delhi Ministers Kapil Mishra, Imran Hussain, Dwarka MLA Adarsh Shastri were among the signatories to the letter, which called the senior leadership to sack the Okhla MLA.
When contacted, Khan had said the whole campaign was "scripted" and added that he will attend the scheduled meeting. He said barely "four to five MLAs" supported the signature campaign against him.
Amanatullah Khan had circulated a WhatsApp message saying Vishwas had called some AAP MLAs to his home with the offer at the behest of the BJP.
"Kumar Vishwas called some MLAs and asked them that he should be made the party convenor," the legislator said.
