Bharatiya Janat Party chief Amit Shah on Monday redefined the OROP as 'Only Rahul, Only Priyanka'. Taking jibe at the Congress party for allegedly failing to fulfill promises to army veterans, the BJP chief claimed that Modi government gave veteran OROP- One Rank One Pension, within a year of assuming power, whereas Congress gave the country - Only Rahul, Only Priyanka.
"When BJP government was formed, within one year Modi ji delivered on his promise on One rank one pension (OROP). Modi ji gave OROP to our jawans, Congress gave 'only Rahul only Priyanka'," he said during a public rally in Una.
Further attacking the opposition party, Shah alleged that Rahul Gandhi was supporting those who want to divide India. "Rahul Gandhi JNU mein desh drohi naare lagane walo ki peeth thap thapane jaate hai. Rahul baba mere neta ko jitni gaali deni hai dedo, lekin kaan khol ke sun lo, agar Bharat maa ke tukde karne ki baat ki to sarkar kisi ko nahi bakshegi, iski jagah salankho k pichhe hai (Rahul Gandhi goes to JNU to encourage anti-India elements. Rahul Baba, you can criticise my leader as much as you want, but be very clear that the government will not those who want to divide India, their rightful place is behind the bars.)," he said.
The Congress last week declared Priyanka Gandhi's political debut as party general secretary in charge of one half of Uttar Pradesh for the national election due by May. The announcement has drawn a range of reactions from political parties.
BJP leaders have been skeptical as well as contemptuous of the Congress move, which is seen as a big gamble and a sign that the party will play for high stakes in the national polls.
A long standing demand of the armed forces veterans, OROP, or One Rank On Pension, implies that uniform pension be paid to the Armed Forces personnel retiring in the same rank with the same length of service, regardless of their date of retirement. Future enhancements in the rates of pension would be automatically passed on to the past pensioners. This implies bridging the gap between the rate of pension of current and past pensioners at periodic intervals.
