While the allegations made by Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “personal involvement” in corruption relating to ‘demonetisation’ may have failed to bring an “earthquake”, the grand old party has claimed that there could be more to come.
According to a Times of India report, a party source said that Rahul Gandhi has so far touched on evidence already in public domain but there is more “new” information about black money.
“It has to be decided when and how is it to be made public,” Times of India quoted the source as saying.
The report cited the source stating that while the future revelations may not be related to ‘demonetisation’ but are said to deal with “black money” which falls under the large debate on currency ban and that PM Modi may figure prominently in the future allegations.
The allegations made by Rahul Gandhi in the form of Sahara-Birla seizures came as a disappointment for the party members as what he spoke about is already being discussed on social media for a while and is also part of a petition filed in the Supreme Court.
A senior leader said the claim was not commensurate with the hype created and it would undercut the gravity in Rahul's future claims.
Rahul Gandhi, on Wednesday, had alleged that Narendra Modi as Gujarat Chief Minister had taken money from Sahara and Birla groups and demanded an independent inquiry into it.
The diaries, as mentioned by Rahul Gandhi, were allegedly recovered during raids at Aditya Birla and Sahara groups offices in 2013 and 2014.
However, the Supreme Court has said that mere entries made in a diary or on a computer can not be the basis of ordering an investigation.
