New Delhi: Delhi’s Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and Aam Aadmi Party MLAs were detained by police near Tughlaq Road when they were on their way to 7 Race Course Road, official residence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to “surrender” before him.
A few hours later, they were released.
Sisodia led AAP MLAs to PM’s residence after a complaint was filed against him by the president of the Ghazipur Vegetable Market Association on Saturday accusing him of intimidation during his official visit to the market. The march was also in protest against the party MLA Dinesh Mohaniya who was arrested by police from his office yesterday.
Mohaniya, the legislator from Sangam Vihar, arrested by the Delhi Police for allegedly misbehaving with a group of women who had gone to him to complain about a water crisis. A Delhi court had also rejected his bail petition and sent him to judicial custody till Monday.
Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced this morning that his deputy would go to Prime Minister’s residence at 7RCR to “surrender himself before the PM”.
“Complaint filed against Manish Sisodia yesterday. Manish will go to 7, RCR today to surrender himself before PM,” Kejriwal tweeted this morning with a copy of the complaint filed against Sisodia.
Police imposed Section 144, prohibiting assembly of more than 10 people in the high security area near PM residence. Race Course metro station, nearest to the PM residence was also closed in view of the security situation.
The complaint against Sisodia was filed yesterday but the police said no FIR would be registered as no cognizable offence was found to be committed.
After the complaint, Sisodia said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi may turn the complaint into a case of extortion, violence and molestation and use it as an excuse to arrest him. He said that he went for a surprise inspection of Ghazipur Mandi and people indulging in illegal activities there have filed the complaint against him.
