The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) today arrested Trinamool Congress MP Sudip Bandopadhyay for his alleged role in the Rose Valley chit fund scam, arguably the biggest ponzi fraud to have hit the country.

Sudip was taken into custody four hours after the probe agency grilled him here in connection with the scam.  This was the first time that he was grilled in the matter after another party MP Tapas Pal was sent to police custody in the case.

Before he presented himself before the CBI for questioning here, Sudip told reporters that he has come here to face CBI interrogation to know what is against him.

"I said that I will face the CBI interrogation to know what is against me,” he said.

He also alleged political vendetta against him and the Trinamool Congress party by the BJP-led NDA government.

Meanwhile, TMC chief Mamata Banerjee has said that the ‘arrest of her party’s MP was part of a planned conspiracy by the BJP to derail her government for opposing demonetisation’.

She even demanded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP president Amit Shah should be arrested because ‘they don’t understand Indian politics’.

“Many political parties are scared, but are not able to speak out. Emergency situation is going on. People should come out on roads against demonetisation move, people will teach them a lesson,” she said.

“If they think that after the arrest (of TMC MP Sudip Bandhopadhyay) we won’t protest, they are wrong. We will protest outside RBI office in Kolkata on January 9 and in Delhi on January 10, 11. I challenge PM, he cannot do anything, can't suppress the voice of the people,”  she added.

The Chief Minister also vowed to take the battle forward legally.

On the other hand, Tapas Pal’s daughter Sohini appeared before the CBI for interrogation in Bhubaneswar for the second time.

Rose Valley scam, which was also being investigated by the Enforcement Directorate, encompasses a larger amount of money swindling as compared to the Saradha case. The scam is believed to be the biggest ponzi fraud in the country.
