Union Minister Uma Bharti today took a sharp jibe at SP-BSP alliance in Uttar Pradesh when she offered emergency help to Mayawati. Recalling the infamous guest house incident, where Samajwadi Party leaders had allegedly tried to attack the Bahujan Samaj Party supremo, Uma Bharti said that just like Brahm Dutt Dwivedi saved her the last time, she will be available to do the same if something happens in the future.

"Jab Rest House mein un par hamla hua tha tab Brahm Dutt Dwivedi Ji the. Ab woh nahi hain toh main hun ab. Jaise hi unko sankat aaye toh mera mobile no. rakhein aur turant mujhe phone karein. SP ke log un par hamla karenge zaroor," the BJP leader said.

(When she was attacked in rest house (the state guest house), Brahm Dutt Dwivedi saved her. Now, if he is not there then I will be. She should save my mobile number and calle me as soon as she is in trouble. SP workers will defintely attack her.)

The incident Uma Bharti referred to happened in 1995, when SP MLAs and workers surrounded the state guest house, where Mayawati was meeting her party MLAs. According to reports, they threatened her with physical violence, which forced her lock herself in a room while they detained several of her MLAs. Then BJP MLA Brahm Dutt Dwivedi, who was present, is widely believed to have stepped in protect Mayawati against possible physical assault by the SP leaders and workers.

The statement by BJP's firebrand leader comes on a day when Mayawati's camp announced that she will campaign for Mulayam Singh Yadav even as she will not contest the Lok Sabha polls herself. Mulayam's son Akhilesh is credited for bringing archrivals SP and BSP back together 25 years after the incident.
