Mumbai: Bharatiya Janata Party Mumbai unit chief Ashish Shelar has said that the final decision on whether to continue or snap ties with Shiv Sena for the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections will be taken by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
In a veiled attack on ally Shiv Sena, Shelar compared the far-right party to a monster.
“There was a mythical monster in Mahabharata who grew in size when the Pandavas tried to kill him by beating him. It was Lord Srikrishna who humiliated him and avoided his attempts to kill him. It reduced him to his original size and then he was trapped in a bottle. This was Krishna niti and to deal with problems in Mumbai we have our own Srikrishna in the form of the Chief Minister,” The Hindu quoted Shelar as saying. He was speaking at the BJP programme at the Shanmukhananda Hall.
However, Fadnavis has kept his partymen guessing, “We at the top will take the decision on the alliance. I urge party workers to concentrate on booth-level activity. If we manage to win the booths, we will win the election. BJP can win the BMC election if we work accordingly,” he said.
A few weeks ago, Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray had asked his party activists to get ready to contest municipal polls independently, if need be.
