The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today asked Delhi chief Minister to tender his resignation for using public funds for personal purposes.
Making the demand for Kejriwal’s resignation, Union Power minister Piyush Goyal said that the Delhi govt used public money for paying noted lawyer Ram Jethmalani for fighting the defamation case against Kejriwal.
"Recently, we saw how the state government tried to use public money for paying noted lawyer Ram Jethmalani for fighting the defamation case against the Delhi Chief Minister and now it has been revealed that Rs 13,805 was spent for a plate at two lunches hosted by Kejriwal," Goyal said.
"The way the AAP tried to pay its personal expenses from public money, BJP condemns it and demands resignation of state government," the minister added.
Goyal said that Kejriwal hosted two different lunches for some 80 special guests at his official residence on February 11 and 12 and spent around Rs 13,805 per plate.
Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly Vijendra Gupta demanded a probe into the matter and also asked the Kejriwal government to reveal the names of the guests.
"The state government is defending this expense saying it has not yet paid the bill, but the fact is that it's a committed liability of the government and they will have to pay it some day. The matter should be probed." Gupta said.
