Three days ago, Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi used his torn kurta to make a political point. He said that it didn’t matter to him that his kurta was torn, an attempt to put across his connect with India’s ‘poor’.

However, Rahul’s attempts at scoring a point over Prime Minister Narendra Modi did not meet the desired fate. Twitter latched on to the ‘torn kurta’ comment and trolled him for his claim to poverty.

The trolling, however, does not seem to have ended. BJP Yuva Morcha workers from Haveri in Karnataka have now sent him a new kurta to ‘shame’ him, says a Times of India report.

“Rahul Gandhi withdrew Rs.4,000 from the bank 40 days ago. He never returned to the banks. So he doesn't have money to buy new kurta. So we have sent a new kurta from our Yuv Morcha. People will teach him a lesson in the coming days for his attitudes,” Times of India quoted a leader Shrinivas as saying.

During a meeting with party workers in Uttarakhand, Rahul put his hand in his kurta pocket, then held it up to show that it was torn.

"My kurta pocket is torn, and that doesn't matter to me. But you will never see Modiji wearing torn clothes, despite the fact that he claims to represent the poor and plays politics with the poor," the Congress vice president said.

Twitterati jumped at the opportunity to troll Rahul and sought to remind Rahul that he had recently returned from a vacation in Europe. Here are some of the most hilarious reactions:

On Wednesday, a man from Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, sent a demand draft of Rs 100 to the Congress vice-president with an appeal to get his torn kurta stitched.

Along with the demand draft, Mukesh also wrote a letter to the 46-year-old leader saying, “It is sad to see you (Rahul Gandhi) wearing a torn kurta and that is why I am sending this demand draft of Rs 100 so that you can fix it immediately.”

While expressing his resentment, Mukesh said, “He went to the ATM in his luxurious car to withdraw Rs 2000. What did he want to prove? During the upcoming elections, he will get to know what it means to fool people. For now, the money has been sent to him to mend the kurta.”
