A Delhi court today granted bail to Aam aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Amanatullah Khan who was arrested on Wednesday for alleged sexual harassment of his sister-in-law.
The AAP MLA from Okhla Assembly constituency was arrested on a complaint filed by his sister-in-law who accused him of pressurising her to establish physical relations.
Khan was yesterday produced before Metropolitan Magistrate Vijeta Singh Rawat who sent him to one-day judicial custody.
Amanatullah Khan has denied the allegations levelled against him, saying he had “no connection with the woman at all”.
The Aam Aadmi Party leader was booked under Sections 354 (assault or criminal force on woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman), 506 (criminal intimidation), 498-A (relative of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty) and criminal conspiracy, police said.
On Monday, Amanatullah Khan, had gone to the Jamia Nagar police station to surrender in this case. However, the police had refused to arrest him at that time.
After Amanatullah Khan’s sister registered cases of sexual harassment against him, the Okhla MLA had resigned from all party posts. However, the AAP had rejected his resignation saying it was an internal matter of his family.
