New Delhi: The Congress has removed former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Ajit Jogi from the all-powerful Congress Working Committee (CWC).
The veteran Congress leader was also removed from the party’s national Scheduled Tribe cell head position.
The removal of Jogi from both these bodies comes a day after the former Chief Minister announced plans to launch a new political party on Monday.
Jogi revealed his plans to launch a new political party at a rally in his constituency Marwahi. He explained that his decision to launch a new party is aimed at freeing the state from Raman Singh government.
Interestingly, Ajit Jogi refrained from resigning from the party. Not only that, he had also reported to have asked his supporting MLAs not to resign.
Political observers believed that it was deliberately done by Jogi because he wanted to leave the scope open for reconciliation with the Congress party.
However, the removal of Jogi from both CWC and Scheduled Tribe cell head position indicates that the high-command is in no mood to offer him any olive branch after he publically announced plans to desert the party.
The relationship of Jogi with Congress high-command had touched a new low after the emergence of the infamous audio tapes in which both Ajit Jogi and his son Amit were allegedly heard trying to fix the Antagarh bypolls.
The Congress at that time had immediately expelled Amit Jogi from the party besides seeking explanation from Ajit Jogi himself.
The Congress had also asked the Election Commission to refer to the CBI the alleged financial deals in the Antagarh bypoll.
