Jokowi will be the first president of Indonesia who does not come from the military or political elite.
In a country beset by massive corruption like most of the third world countries, Jokowi is looked upon by the common man as an exception who is honest.
According to the Indonesian Election Commission, Widodo won 53.15% of the vote with his rival, ex-general Prabowo Subianto, finishing second with 46.85%.
Subianto has expressed his unhappiness with the way presidential elections were conducted and is likely to challenge the election results in court. But political observers are unanimous that he is likely to lose the legal battle.
