  • All eyes are on Virat Kohli especially in Australia and no wonder, the onus will be on him in the likely absence of skipper Rohit Sharma. Kohli had a decent net session on the first couple of days at the WACA in Perth even as he was troubled by a few deliveries from the pacers.

  • Rishabh Pant, the hero of the Gabba win and the series victory last time, will be key yet again for India. Like always, he was one of the major talking points in the nets. Pant's aggressive batting will be important to turn the tide in Test matches for the visitors. If he starts getting runs, Australia will be in deep trouble.

  • Ravindra Jadeja is expected to be the lone spinner in the playing XI, especially at the Optus Stadium in Perth. Given the swinging and bouncy nature of the surface, more than his bowling, Jadeja's batting skills will be needed at the venue.

  • The future of Indian cricket is here. This is Shubman Gill's second tour of Australia while Yashasvi Jaiswal has toured for the first time. They will have to shoulder India's batting in case the veteran don't find their form on time in the upcoming five-match series.

  • Mohammed Siraj made his Test debut on last Australia tour and returns as a player who has played 31 Tests so far to go with 80 wickets. His form is under the scanner but having performed well on the last tour down under, he will be confident of doing well this time too. He will have to pick wickets at regular intervals to provide support to pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah
