Most matches played as captain in T20 World Cup; Williamson to replace Dhoni at top?

Former Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni played most matches as a captain in the history of the ICC T20 World Cup. Dhoni played 33 matches, in which India won 20 and lost 13 games. Under MSD's captaincy, India won its maiden T20 title in 2007, and since then, the Men in Blue are waiting for a title.

Former Caribbean skipper Daren Sammy won 11 and lost 5 games out of 18 matches he played as a captain. Under his captaincy, the West Indies won their first title in 2012 by defeating Sri Lanka and their second in 2016 by defeating England.

3. Paul Collingwood played 17 matches as England won 12 matches and lost five matches under his captaincy. The erstwhile English captain brought England their first T20 title in 2010 by defeating Australia. 

4. Kane Williamson-led new Zealand have played 17 games, out of which they won 12 and lost 5 in tournament history. In 2021, under his captaincy, the Black Caps played the finals against eventual champions Australia.

5. The Sri Lankan team won nine and lost six games out of the 16 matches they played under the captaincy of Dasun Shanaka ICC T20 World Cup. He led the Sri Lankan squad in the 2021 and 2022 World Cups without much success.
