The upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League is set to get underway on March 22. All teams have announced their captains for the season and five of them have named the new captains in a bid to win the title. Here are those five teams and their new captains.
Punjab Kings - PBKS have appointed Shreyas Iyer as the team's captain this season. They splurged a massive amount on him at the mega auction. Iyer is coming off a sensational triumph with KKR last year. He led the franchise to their third IPL title in 2024 and will be keen on helping PBKS win their maiden IPL trophy in 2025.

Kolkata Knight Riders - KKR have appointed Ajinkya Rahane as captain this season. The choice is surprising as Rahane was their last-minute pick at the auction for his base price. Rahane has a chance to improve his captaincy record which is not great in IPL and he will be looking to defend the title for KKR.

Delhi Capitals - Axar Patel will lead Delhi Capitals this year, having released Rishabh Pant ahead of the mega auction. Axar's credentials as player have shot up in the last couple of years and is the senior most player in the franchise as well now. This is the first time he will be leading a team in a full season in IPL.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru - Rajat Patidar is a star in the making and RCB have identified it. The franchise has named him the captain of the team and he will be leading star players like Virat Kohli, Liam Livingstone, Josh Hazlewood among many others. The onus will be on Patidar to help RCB win their maiden IPL title.
