5. Len Hutton of England is at the fifth place having batted for 797 minutes to score 364 runs against arch-rivals Australia. He faced 847 balls during his stay in the middle in a Test played at The Oval in 1938 and smashed 35 fours.

4. Legendary Sri Lanka batter Sanath Jayasuriya also features on this list at fourth place. He smashed 340 runs off 578 deliveries with 36 fours and two sixes against India in 1997. He was batting for a whopping 799 minutes to score as many runs. It is the same innings that witnessed Sri Lanka create history to post 952 runs in the innings.

3. Alastair Cook, the former England captain, spent a staggering 836 minutes in the middle against Pakistan in Abu Dhabi. He scored 263 runs off 528 deliveries with 18 fours to his name to record the third longest individual innings in Test cricket history.

2. Gary Kirsten is next on this list having batted for 878 minutes to score 275 runs off 642 deliveries with 26 fours to his name. Kirsten did so for South Africa against England in a Test match played at Kingsmead in Durban in December 1999. During his marathon knock, Kirsten smacked 26 fours as well.

1. Hanif Mohammad of Pakistan has played the longest innings in the history of Test cricket. He batted for 970 minutes to score 337 runs against the West Indies at Bridgetown smashing 24 fours in 1958.
