Ever since the emergence of T20 cricket, the players have not been able to play long innings in Test format. When it comes to spending time in the middle to tackle the conditions, several teams are witnessing collapse these days. However, previously, many players have played long innings.

Kirsten did so for South Africa against England in a Test match played at Kingsmead in Durban in December 1999. During his marathon knock, Kirsten smacked 26 fours as well.
