    Protesting farmers on Tuesday swarmed the Red Fort during a 'tractor rally' on Republic Day amid police attempts to block them from proceeding towards central Delhi, barged into the 17th-century monument, climbed up the ramparts, and waved farmer union flags and banners and even hoisted a pennant. All this happened after thousands of farmers riding tractors and motorcycles thronged the otherwise busy ITO intersection. Police and other security personnel deployed at the Red Fort were seen lathi-charging the protesters at the monument even as the former were clearly outnumbered by the farmers.     The Delhi Police on Friday used tear gas shells to disperse a group of farmers who had reached the Singhu border as part of their 'Delhi Chalo' march to protest against the Centre's new farm laws. The shells were fired at the border point at Narela which connects Delhi with Haryana. Punjab farmers, representing over 30 farm bodies, have announced they will enter Delhi through several routes -- Lalru, Shambhu, Patiala-Pehowa, Patran-Khanauri, Moonak-Tohana, Ratia-Fatehabad, and Talwandi-Sirsa. Traffic has been diverted at several places along the national capital's border in view of the protest. Checking of vehicles has also been intensified at the Delhi-Gurgaon border leading to heavy traffic jams. CISF personnel have also been deployed on the Delhi-Gurgaon border.

    Severe cyclonic storm 'Nivar' will intensify into a very severe cyclonic storm over the next 12 hours and cross the coast between Tamil Nadu and Puducherry Wednesday midnight or early Thursday. The India Meteorological Department said it is very likely to move northwestwards and cross between Karaikal and Mamallapuram around Puducherry during mid-night of November 25 and early hours of November 26 as a very severe cyclonic storm with a wind speed of 120-130 kmph gusting to 145 kmph. Meanwhile, Chennai and its suburbs received heavy overnight rains, with low-lying areas getting inundated and water entering houses in such localities.
