Its IITs all the way in MHRD’s list of India’s best engineering colleges

New Delhi: Engineering has long been known as a lucrative profession, given that you are well-trained and have the requisite skills for the job. No wonder then that India’s reputed engineering colleges are highly sought after and aspirants give it all they have to make the cut in one of these institutions. The number of engineer in India has been increasing by several lakhs every year. Now, a new set of rankings introduced by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) officially places these colleges in better perspective for those looking at engineering as a career option. A total of 100 colleges have been ranked in the full list based on parameters including Teaching, Learning & Resources (TLR), Research, Professional Practice & Collaborative Performance (RPC), Graduation Outcome (GO), Outreach and Inclusivity (OI) and Perception (PR). Here is the list of top 10 engineering colleges in India:

IIT (Madras) tops the list of best engineering colleges in India with a weighted score of 89.42. It was established in the year of 1959 and it was German government to offer the technical assistance for establishing the higher educational institute in India. This premier institute has 550 faculty, 8000 students and 1250 administrative.

IIT Bombay: At no. 2 on the MHRD list is IIT Bombay which was established in the year 1958 and was first to be set in foreign assistance. The institute weighted score of 87.67 is located in the northern suburban of Mumbai. The institute is recognized worldwide as a leader in the field of engineering, research and education.

IIT Kharagpur: Next is IIT Kharagpur, which is ranked at no 3 by the ministry. The oldest IIT in the country gets a weightage of 83.91 and was established in 1951. It is situated about 120 km west of Kolkata.

IIT Delhi IIT Delhi is at no. 4 in the list of premier engineering colleges in India with weightage of 82.03. It was established in 1961. IIT Delhi is known for providing adequate facilities for postgraduate study and research to meet the needs of specialised teachers and workers.

Ranked at no. 5 IIT Kanpur is on the list with weightage of 81.07 and the institute was established in the year of 1959. Its aim is to provide meaningful education, to conduct original research with highest standard and to provide leadership technological innovation.

IIT Roorkee: The institute is ranked at no. 6 on the list with the weightage of 78.68. It was established in 2001. It admits student of B.tech and B. Arch courses through the IIT-JEE.

IIT Hyderabad was established in 2008 and ranked at no 7 by the ministry with weightage of 77.23 The institute has its clear vision of recognised as ideators and leaders in higher education and research.

IIT Gandhinagar is located on the banks of Sabarmati river in Palaj, Gandhinagar and was established in 2008. The institute is ranked at no 8 with a weightage of 75.21.

IIT Ropar with the weightage of 74.89 in next on the list. It was established in the year 2009. The institute is situated in Punjab and ranks at no 9 in the list of best engineering colleges.

Ranked tenth on the list of best engineering colleges is IIT Patna with a weightage of 74.68. It was established in the year 2008. The institute provides high-speed core networking for all the knowledge related institutions in India as it is a part of National Knowledge Network (NKN).
