In a major boost to connectivity, Indian Railways is set to launch a direct train service linking Kashmir to Kanyakumari in 2025. This ambitious plan will connect the northernmost and southernmost tips of India, offering travelers a seamless rail journey across the country.

The project now enables the possibility of direct train services from Srinagar to other parts of the country. Currently, Jammu and Kashmir has long-distance rail connectivity only from Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra railway station.

Currently, train number 16317/16318 Himsagar Express connects Kanyakumari to Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra, covering a distance of 3,127 km in 54 hours and 40 minutes. The train operates once a week, stopping at 41 stations along its route.

The Himsagar Express departs from Kanyakumari every Friday at 14:15 hrs and reaches Katra on the fourth day at 10:45 hrs. On its return, it leaves Katra every Monday at 22:25 hrs, reaching Kanyakumari the next day at 23:05 hrs.
