With the beginning of the new year, the cold in Jammu and Kashmir has intensified. The biting cold has made life even more difficult for the people in the valley. In many areas, the temperature has dropped to sub-zero levels. Especially in regions like Srinagar, Shopian, Pahalgam, and Gulmarg, the nighttime temperatures have plummeted significantly. Meanwhile, in colder areas like Leh and Kargil, the situation has become even harsher.

In Srinagar, yesterday's temperature was recorded at -4.4 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, Shopian considered the coldest region in Kashmir, has seen temperatures drop to -10.2 degrees Celsius. Additionally, prominent tourist destinations in Kashmir, such as Pahalgam and Gulmarg, have recorded temperatures of -7.6 degrees and -8.8 degrees Celsius, respectively.

The situation in Leh and Kargil is even worse than in Kashmir. The temperature at Zojila is hovering around -25 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, the temperatures in Kargil and Leh have dropped to -18 degrees Celsius.

In Kashmir, the freezing cold has increased the problems for common people. The intermittent power supply and the freezing of lakes and rivers are becoming major issues for the residents.

Despite the severe cold, there is an influx of tourists in Kashmir. Apart from Srinagar, tourists are heading towards major hill stations like Gulmarg, Pahalgam, and Sonmarg to enjoy the weather and the scenic beauty.

Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has issued another snowfall alert for Kashmir. According to the department, heavy snowfall is expected between January 3 and 6, which will make the weather even colder in many parts of Kashmir.

This snowfall could affect transportation and other activities, but it is expected that the number of tourists will increase even more due to the snowfall.
