The Prayagraj Express became the fastest train with 24 coaches operated by the Indian Railways, clocking a speed of 130 kmph. The Prayagraj Express managed to become the longest train in India to run at 130 kmph, while also reducing the commuting time between the cities by 40 minutes.

The Prayagraj Express was introduced on July 6, 1984 and is known as the first superfast express train that runs daily on the route.

The Prayagraj Express has AC first class, AC 2-tier, AC 3-tier, sleeper, and general unreserved classes. The train coaches were manufactured by Linke Hofmann Busch (LFB), a German company.  The Prayagraj Express has large windows and e-catering facilities.
