Many people were feared buried in yet another major landslide on the National Highway 5 in Himachal Pradesh's remote Kinnaur district on Wednesday.
A state roadways bus and several vehicles were buried in the landslide that occurred over on a larger stretch on the highway near Nigulsari, 61 km from Reckong Peo, the district headquarters of Kinnaur.
The Army, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and local rescue teams have been called in for the rescue work, the Kinnaur deputy commissioner said.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah have also spoken to Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur on Wednesday and assured him of all possible help.
The driver and co-driver of the HRTC bus have been injured. Local rescuers are in touch with them over the phone.
BJP president JP Nadda meanwhile has requested the party workers to extend all possible help in affected areas.
While rescue work is being carried out by teams of the Indian Army, ITBP, NDRF, and the state police, shooting, and sliding of stones from mountains are making their work difficult.
