Gatimaan Express, a semi-high speed train that will run between New Delhi and Agra, will begin operations from April 5. Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu will flag off the train from New Delhi Railway Station at 10 am.

Gatimaan Express, which will be the fastest train in India, will run at a high speed of 160 km/h.

The train will have Executive Class and Chair Car category. Catering facility will also be available.

The fare of Gatimaan Express will be 25 per cent more than normal fare of Shatabdi Express. It will have 12 modern coaches.

To align with PM Narendra Modi's 'Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan', the Indian Railways has installed bio-toilets in the train.

To attain the high speed, tracks on Delhi-Agra route have been fenced off at few places. Also, signalling system has been upgraded.
The train features extra advance facilities like automatic fire alarm, emergency braking system along with the passenger information system and sliding doors inside the coaches.

The train will have 12 AC coaches, hostesses in each compartment, free wi-fi facility, automatic doors, and several other facilities to offer a comfortable train journey in specially designed coaches.

The train is equipped with a 5,400HP electric locomotive and 12 modern coaches. There will be 2 spare coaches besides the 12 regular coaches.Each coach will cost around Rs. 2 to Rs. 2.5 crore.

The coaches also have several beautiful paintings of the tourist places in and around Delhi and Agra.

The coaches of the train, developed under the ‘Make In India’ initiative, are built at Kapurthala Railway Coach Factory in Punjab. Bio-toilets are developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and interiors from other Indian companies.

The 8-inch LCDs fitted on the back of every seat will keep the passengers entertained during the 100-minute journey.

The Indian Railways has also planned to launch semi high-speed trains on nine more routes including Kanpur-Delhi, Hyderabad-Chennai, Goa-Mumbai, Nagpur-Bilaspur, Nagpur-Secunderabad and Chandigarh-Delhi.
