It’s Ganesh Chaturthi today and the entire country is indulged in the festivity as they welcome the Vighanharta this year.
The marks the birthday of Lord Ganesha and is generally celebrated for 10-14 days.
Several artistic statues of Ganpati are being installed in colorfully decorated ‘pandals’ in homes, localities and temples.
On this day, devotees pray to the God for prosperity and unhindered new beginnings. Also known as 'Vinayak Chaturthi', the festival is celebrated during the Hindu month of Bhadra (mid-August to mid-September). The festival ends on the 14th day of the fortnight, called 'Ananta Chaturdashi' after which the idol of Lord Ganesha is immersed in water. During the festival, local communities put up public pandals for mass worship, while families bring home small clay idols to pray.
Not just the aam admi, but several celebs are also spotted celebrating the festival.
